Bringing Internet content to TVs is a challenging task. Not if you are an experienced satellite technology company.

In order to increase the functionality of the new SATMODE platform we have developed SATMODE Browser. It is an application that can display HTML content, just like regular browsers. Naturally, it is not a fully fledged browser like Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer, but it conforms to the XHTML 1.0 standards, thus allowing content providers to target the TV public too. Our demonstration programs include an Electronic Program Guide, advertisements and weather forecast applications, which are all accessible via a browser.

The Browser is based on the X-Smiles Java based browser and supports several XML related specifications. Its major advantage is being able to run on embedded devices i.e. TV set-top-boxes. So instead of using your PC for checking your favorite web pages, why not do it on your TV?
